Getting started

This section walks through initial setup: installing software, connecting hardware, and running a first debug session.

Before you begin

Confirm you have:

  • A supported host operating system (see the RiscFree product page when requirements are published)
  • A valid licence or evaluation package where applicable
  • The correct Opella probe and cables for your target, if debugging on hardware

Typical workflow

  1. Install RiscFree on the host and activate your licence.
  2. Install probe drivers if you are using Opella or Vitra-XS.
  3. Create or import a project for your target architecture.
  4. Connect the probe to the target and verify detection in the IDE.
  5. Download and debug — set breakpoints, run, and inspect state.
