RiscFree™ for Embedded Software Development

RiscFree™ for Embedded Software Development is a Visual Studio Code extension for embedded development from Ashling, published on the Visual Studio Marketplace. It installs Ashling SDKs for you, builds CMake and Make projects, and debugs Arm, ARC and RISC-V targets through Ashling probes, or RISC-V programs on the QEMU simulator.

Features

  • Arm, ARC and RISC-V hardware debugging with Ashling Vitra-XS, Opella-XD and Opella-LD probes.
  • RISC-V QEMU simulator debugging without target hardware or a licence.
  • CMake and Make builds from the Ashling Project View.
  • Graphical debug configuration instead of editing launch.json.
  • RTOS-aware debug for FreeRTOS, Zephyr and µC/OS-II applications.
  • Simultaneous heterogeneous multicore debug, each core in its own debug session.
  • Peripheral register inspection for supported devices.
  • SDK Manager to install, verify and update Ashling SDKs, chosen per project.
  • Example projects imported from installed SDKs.

The extension, SDK Manager, example projects, builds, QEMU debugging and VSD board debugging are free. Hardware debugging of Arm, ARC and RISC-V targets needs an Ashling GDB server licence — see what's free.
